Antique and rare small Chinese black lacquered jewelry box decorated with gilt birds, H 33 cm, late 19th/early 20th century

Antique small Chinese cabinet in black lacquered wood, which can be used as a jewelry box, storage box or decorative display case.

It features a beautiful opening façade with a gilded and polychrome decoration composed of flowers, foliage, birds in flight, and Asian plant motifs. The black lacquered background highlights the gilded decorations and gives the whole piece a striking decorative presence.

The cabinet consists of a top compartment that opens, a central compartment with two doors revealing four small interior drawers, and a large drawer at the bottom. The drawers are fitted with small metal handles. The front is adorned with decorative metal fittings.
The locks are present but non-functional: they do not close. There is no key.

This small miniature piece of furniture probably dates from the late 19th or early 20th century. It is Chinese or Asian, an old export item.

It shows normal signs of age: small chips in the lacquer, wear on the edges, scuffs, minor marks and visible damage, particularly on the protruding parts. Despite these flaws, it remains in good overall condition, sturdy, decorative and full of charm.
A very beautiful object for Asian-style decoration, a cabinet of curiosities, an antique shop display case, jewelry storage, a collection of lacquered objects, or a refined interior.
