DetailsRare and elegant Chinese white biscuit porcelain statue from Dehua, representing He Xiangu, one of the Eight Immortals of Taoism, an emblematic female figure associated with purity, longevity and immortality.
The goddess is depicted standing on lotus flowers, a major spiritual symbol in China, holding lotus flowers in her hand, in a serene and meditative attitude.
The modeling is fine and fluid, typical of the productions of Dehua (Fujian province), renowned since the Ming dynasty for the exceptional quality of their white porcelain known as Blanc de Chine.
The statue rests on an old wooden base, highlighting its decorative and religious character.
The ensemble dates from the late 19th century – early 20th century, a period highly sought after for this type of religious sculpture.

• Old injury to the thumb of the left hand

• Good overall preservation of the biscuit
