Beautiful antique set of four Japanese nesting boxes in black lacquered wood, decorated by hand.

These rectangular boxes nest inside one another and feature an elegant Japanese-inspired design depicting lakeside landscapes, pagodas, mountains, trees, and small figures. The design is executed in polychrome with touches of gold, on a glossy black background that highlights the depth and detail of the scene.

The set is typical of mid-20th century Japanese decorative objects, often intended for storing small jewelry, souvenirs, sewing accessories, small papers or precious objects.
