This unique, handcrafted piece depicts a stylized crocodile in relief, with protruding eyes that also serve as a spout. Surmounted by a small sculpted bird, this zoomorphic design evokes symbolic scenes of totem or mythical animals. The ceramic is painted in red, black, and white, with an antique slip that has acquired a beautiful patina.
The design is reminiscent of the votive or utilitarian forms of the Moche or Chimu cultures of Peru.
